With the win, the Belles improve to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in LSC play, giving ASU the conference's best overall record through the opening weekend of league action.
The Blue and Gold controlled the match offensively, outhitting the Hilltoppers .271 to .138 while holding advantages in service aces, 11-3, blocks, 8-6, and assists, 37-34.
After splitting the opening two sets, Angelo State took complete control in the third. The Belles hit .389 as a team while limiting St. Edward's to a -.148 attack percentage, cruising to a 25-9 victory to take a 2-1 match lead.
The Belles carried that momentum into the fourth set, closing out the Hilltoppers to secure their second conference victory of the weekend.
Madi Parrish led all hitters with 15 kills while hitting .308. The senior also added an assist, two blocks and six digs.
Julia Hopkins followed with seven kills, while
Hannah Barnhill recorded six.
Alli Kirkpatrick and
Vivian Parker each added five kills for the Belles.
Sydney Thornton made her impact at the net and from the service line, recording three kills, a team-high six total blocks and three service aces. The junior was one of five Belles to record multiple blocks in the match.
Gabi Ashcraft and
Olivia Pena shared the team lead with 16 assists apiece. Ashcraft also led Angelo State with four service aces, while
Allie Duitsman matched Thornton with three aces.
Duitsman also paced the Belles defensively with 16 digs.
Angelo State returns home Friday for the Belle Bash, hosting Oklahoma Christian at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
