As a freshman, De La Garza had 33 RBI, hit .292 with four home runs from the right-side of the plate and scored 27 runs for WC which went 32-24. He would finish his sophomore season with 27 hits, including five doubles and scored 22 runs. As a junior, De La Garza hit .419 with 12 home runs and drove in 62 runs and he followed that season up with a .414 batting average and nine home runs as a senior. Â
"He's a great shortstop who has a lot of potential at the plate," said ASU head coach
Kevin Brooks of De La Garza. "He's a guy who will come in and have an opportunity in the fall to earn a starting spot. He is a very good player who we think come in and play well for us."
