Ryan Johnson joined the Angelo State University staff in 2015 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer working primarily with baseball and women’s golf. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification and licensed though the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. He is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association, Texas State Athletic Trainers’ Association, and the College Athletic Trainers’ Society.
Johnson received his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Physical Education from the University of Texas at Arlington. He received his Master’s degree in Sports and Fitness from Winthrop University.
Johnson directs the management of the Concussion Safety Protocol at Angelo State University. He completed his thesis in The Impact of Educational Material on Collegiate Student Athletes Knowledge of Sports Related Concussion.
Currently he volunteers for the Justin Sports Medicine program helping athletes with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and has done so since 2010. Previous experiences include internships with the Texas Rangers and Fort Worth Cats.
In June of 2020, Johnson was recognized as the Region 2 TSATA Spotlight Recipient. He has been a part of a staff that received the Lone Star Conference Athletic training staff of the year award in 2016-2017 and 2018-2019.
Johnson resides in San Angelo with his wife, Paige, and daughter Magnolia.
