Stephanie Ruiz enters her third season as an assistant coach with the Angelo State University women’s basketball team. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Ruiz joined the Rambelles prior to the 2024-25 season. Since her arrival in the Blue and Gold, Angelo State has compiled a 33-24 record, making appearances in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament in each of her first two seasons. The Rambelles also advanced to the South Central Regional during Ruiz’s first season on staff.
Prior to joining Angelo State, Ruiz spent two seasons (2022-23 and 2023-24) as an assistant coach at Adams State under head coach Mario Caetano. During her time with the Grizzlies, Adams State posted a 46-18 record, making appearances in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship Tournament in both seasons. In her second season, the Grizzlies advanced to the South Central Regional, defeating UT Permian Basin in the 4-5 matchup before falling to Texas Woman’s University in the regional semifinal.
PLAYING CAREER
Ruiz spent five seasons as a guard on the Adams State women’s basketball team from 2017-22. She played 2,449 minutes across 93 appearances, including 73 starts, while scoring 956 points on a .375 career shooting percentage. Ruiz also recorded 209 rebounds, 99 assists and 95 steals during her career.
She recorded a career-high 22 points in a game three times. Ruiz first reached the mark against Colorado Christian on Dec. 29, 2017, before matching it against William Jewell on Nov. 11, 2018, and Fort Lewis on Dec. 1, 2018. She scored more than 20 points in a game eight times during her career.
PERSONAL
Ruiz is the daughter of Rudy and Angie Ruiz and has two siblings, Rudy Jr. and Hannah. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business and coaching and a master’s degree in business administration from Adams State. Ruiz attended William Howard Taft High School in San Antonio, Texas.
