Evan Amstutz

Evan Amstutz is entering his third season at Angelo State after starting in the spring of 2018. In his two seasons working under Head Coach Chuck Waddington, the volleyball team has finished with a combined 51-13 record, and has won the 2019 Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament. He has had the honor of helping mentor four All-Americans, and 12 All-Conference student-athletes so far. He looks forward to yet another season of working with the team, mentoring under Coach Waddington, and serving the volleyball community of San Angelo.

In the summer of 2019, Amstutz had the opportunity to serve as the head coach for the Lone Star High Performance team that competed in the High Performance Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. His team ended on the podium with a silver medal.

Amstutz most recently was the assistant coach at Division-II Urbana University in Ohio, where the Blue Knights finished in third place in the Mountain East Conference and advanced to the MEC tournament semifinals before falling to eventual champion Wheeling Jesuit in five sets.

In 2016, Amstutz was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association "Thirty Under 30" list, which honors up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of volleyball.

"I am really excited that Evan is joining our staff. He fits in perfectly with what we need right now," Waddington said. "He is a tireless recruiter, exceptionally organized and really good in the gym. I expect him to make an immediate impact on our program and help us maintain our championship standards. What I like most is that he chose us. He had several Division I opportunities that he passed on to be part of our program. That mentality is very similar to the type of players we recruit.  I'm looking forward to working with him."

A graduate of Wittenberg University, Amstutz served on staff there with a team that won the 2011 Division III National Championship and three straight conference championships. From there he went to Miami (Ohio) to earn his Masters of Kinesiology and Health while serving as a volunteer assistant for a team that jumped from 11th place to a second-place finish in  the Mid-American conference tournament.

Amstutz then returned to his alma mater, Wittenberg, to launch the school's Division III men's volleyball program and serve as its head coach for two years before leaving to work as the assistant at Urbana.

He currently resides in San Angelo with his wife, Molly, and his daughter, Charlotte.
