Angelo State head baseball coach Kevin Brooks has announced the hiring of Jerod Goodale as the Rams' new assistant coach. Goodale begins his new duties immediately and replaces Marty Smith, who left ASU over the summer for another coaching opportunity.
Goodale comes to Angelo State after spending the past three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Wichita State. While with the Shockers, Goodale helped coach the squad to a 131-66 overall record and three straight Missouri Valley Conference championships. Over the past three seasons, Wichita State advanced to the NCAA Division I playoffs each year, including two Super Regional appearances (2007, 2008).
"We are very excited to be getting a coach of Jerod's caliber to join our program," Brooks said. "He has been around some great programs and coaches, worked with some of the best coaches in college baseball and has won wherever he has been. We are really looking forward to him joining our staff and feel he will make an immediate impact upon our program with his recruiting ability and his proven ability to help develop pitchers and catchers. He will hopefully help us get back to the World Series and win a national championship."
Prior to his three seasons at Wichita State, Goodale spent two years as an assistant coach at Fort Hays State (Kan.) where helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2006, coaching three All-Americans, including the 2006 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year.
A native of Hays, Kan., Goodale was a student-athlete at Fort Hays State. While with the Tigers, he was a two-time all-conference pick at catcher and served as team captain as a junior and senior. As a junior, he helped FHSU claim the RMAC title and guided the Tigers to the NCAA D-II postseason. Goodale earned his bachelor's degree in health and human performance in 2004 and collected a master's degree in the same discipline from the school in 2006.
Jared and his wife, Jessica, have a daughter, Riley.
