Angelo State earned conference accolades for the second-consecutive week, after Ashley Brown was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

In a week that featured two matches against the league’s top teams, Angelo State (10-5-1, LSC 7-2) went 1-1, while, Brown tallied two goals, including the game winner against 18th-ranked Midwestern State. In Sunday’s contest, the senior forward was able to kick the ball low and far post past the outstretched mitt of the Mustangs keeper in the final minute of play. Brown’s goal with 12 seconds remaining on the clock secured a victory on Senior Day for ASU and handed MSU its first conference loss this season.

“I still have goose bumps from Ashley scoring,” said senior captain Shannon Dean after the game. “It’s seriously the best thing we could do. We’ve set records all year and this is one more to add to it.”

ASU collided with Abilene Christian on Oct. 22 and Brown gave the ‘Belles a 1-0 lead after her goal in the 60th minute. The Harlan, Iowa native received a pass from Brandie DeBacker in front of the box and was able to net her fourth goal of the season. The blue and gold led until the 71st minute before the Wildcats clawed their way to a 3-1 victory.

“I could not be happier for Ashley to get this award,” said third-year head coach Travis McCorkle. “She kicked in two big goals for us this weekend and she deserves it.”

Through 14 games and with four games left in the regular season, Angelo State has allowed just 14 goals. The Belles record for goals allowed in a season is 16 in 13 games during the inaugural 1995 season. More comparably perhaps were the 19 goals allowed by the 2006 ASU team that played 20 contests or the 19 goals allowed by the 2001 team that played 16 games.
