The Matches
• Texas A&M-Commerce: The Rambelles will face the Lions for the 52nd time in program history. Angelo State leads the all-time series, 32-19. Last season, the 'Belles swept Texas A&M-Commerce at the Junell Center. In 2008, Texas A&M-Commerce defeated Angelo State, 3-1, at the Field House in Commerce, Texas.
• Texas Woman's: ASU will meet Texas Woman's University Saturday afternoon. The 'Belles hold a 24-11 advantage in the all-time series and defeated the Pioneers, 3-2, at the Lone Star Conference Championships last November. Texas Woman's University swept Angelo State in their first meeting of the 2009 season.
The Coaches
• Angelo State:
Chuck Waddington (Rensselaer, 1993) took over the ASU program in 2008 and has since guided the 'Belles to a 42-33 overall mark. Waddington has propelled the Rambelles to back-to-back conference appearances in 2008 and 2009. Under Waddington's tutelage, the 'Belles finished third in the LSC Tournament.
• Texas A&M-Commerce: Craig Case (St. Cloud University, 1999) enters his first year at Texas A&M-Commerce and has guided the Lions to a 4-6 mark thus far. Case comes to Texas A&M-Commerce from Valley City State University in North Dakota, where he is currently ranked third all-time in career victories.
• Texas Woman's: Shelly Barberee (Stephen F. Austin, 1994), began her eighth season at the helm of the Pioneers' volleyball program with a 123-112 record. The 2003, LSC Coach of the Year, has led Texas Woman's to seven consecutive Lone Star Conference postseason volleyball tournaments.
The Program
• The 'Belles are coming off of a 3-0 sweep of Lone Star Conference rival, Tarleton State last Thursday. Prior to their loss at the hands of ASU, the TexAnns were undefeated at 9-0.
• ASU is currently 1-1 in the Lone Star Conference after dropping a 3-0 decision to conference foe Abilene Christian before sweeping Tarleton State.
• Sophomore setter
Alex Woolsey continues to pace the 'Belles as she notched her fourth double-double (26 assists, 14 digs) in the Rambelles' loss to Abilene Christian.
• Woolsey totaled 60 assists, 23 digs and three total blocks in the two matches.
• Sophomore
Alisa Meredith also recorded a double-double (10 kills, 12 digs), her first of the season. Meredith's double-double came against Tarleton State, where she hit .348 and notched a service ace in the 'Belles' victory.
• Head coach
Chuck Waddington added assistant coach Qi Wang to his staff over the summer. Wang brings a wealth of experience to ASU as he was the former head coach at Florida Tech, Northern Michigan and Truman State. The China native led Truman State to the national title game in 2002 and 2004, and was named Division II National Coach of the Year in 2002.
• Former East Central standout Holly Hicks also has joined the 'Belles coaching staff as graduate assistant. Hicks enters her first year of coaching with numerous hours of playing time on her resume. The Round Rock, Texas native competed as a member of the Austin Juniors, one of the top club programs in the state, and earned an athletic scholarship to Texas Tech.
• ASU Volleyball was picked to finish third in the conference behind West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian University.
This Week's Opponents
• Texas A&M-Commerce: The Lions are trying to snap a three-match losing skid after dropping contests to Eastern New Mexico (3-0), West Texas A&M (3-0) and Southwest Baptist (3-0). Texas A&M-Commerce's last victory came on Sept. 10, when it swept St. Mary's at the TexAnn Invitational. The Lions are led by Kayla Bond, who is totaling 92 kills, 10 service aces and 10 total blocks. Setter Jordan Neal is averaging 8.11 assists per set and 1.67 digs per set, while Dakota Crockett leads the Lions with 110 digs.
• Texas Woman's: Last week the Pioneers went 1-1, defeating Eastern New Mexico, 3-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision to No. 22 West Texas A&M. Texas Woman's University is led by Andrea Rivera-Rojas' 91 kills and 126 digs. Sydney Veitenheimer and Kaitlyn Harrison split time at setter for the Pioneers. Veitenheimer has a team-best 196 assists, while Harrison's 150 ranks her second. Leading the Pioneers in digs is Kendra Coulson with 168.
