No. 17 Belles, No. 12 Lady Buffs Battle for LSC Supremacy

CANYON, Texas – The No.17 Angelo State Belles volleyball team square off tomorrow in one of the biggest matches of the season with their showdown against No. 12 West Texas A&M. The match, set to begin at 2 p.m., is likely to put the winner in the position to win the Lone Star Conference regular season title and conference tournament hosting honors.
 
Currently West Texas A&M has a 16-1 record in the LSC with the Lady Buffs loss coming at the hands of Tarleton State on Sept. 17 in five sets. The loss snapped a NCAA record 87 match conference win streak for the Lady Buffs.
 
West Texas is 26-2 on the year after beating Abilene Christian in straight sets on Thursday at home and has won the last five LSC Tournament Titles. Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Davis leads the Lady Buffs with 317 kills while setter Lacy Hayes has 1,082 assists for West Texas.
 
WT is currently on a 10-match win streak and has won 26-straight at home.
 
The Belles have won a school-record 15 games in the LSC this season with its only loss coming to West Texas at home on Sept 24 in a five-set match. Angelo State is also 26-2 on the season, its most wins since 2004, and is ranked in the AVCA Top-25 poll for the first time since 1993.
 
Angelo State is currently on a eight match winning streak and has won 12 of their last 13 matches. The Belles are 8-1 on the road this season with its only loss coming to No. 5 Washburn.
 
The Belles swept Eastern New Mexico last night in straight sets to move to 15-0 in three-set matches. Junior setter Alex Woolsey had 32 assists and 14 digs to lead Angelo State versus the Zias and has 1,095 assists on the season. Senior outside hitter Celeste Bonter has 257 kills for the Belles followed by junior middle blocker Chelsea Gibson with 245.
 
The Belles and Lady Buffs are also ranked high in the NCAA Division II Regional Rankings in the South Central Region with Angelo State ranked at No. 3 (behind Washburn and Central Missouri) and West Texas is fourth.
