CANYON, Texas – The Angelo State Belles finished as the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship's runner-up on Saturday after a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-22) loss to West Texas A&M at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.

The Belles (30-5) will await their NCAA regional selection which will be announced on Sunday, while the Lady Buffs (33-2) earned the LSC's automatic bid. The loss was the third of the season for the Belles against West Texas A&M.

Maddie Huth, Chelsea Gibson and Alex Woolsey were each named to the LSC All-Tournament team after the match. Gibson led the Belles with 11 kills in the match, while Huth added seven kills and two digs. Woolsey paced ASU with 34 assists and six digs, while Shelby Wilt led the Belles with 20 digs. Kaelen Valdez contributed six kills and 12 digs, while Debbie Ohl each added six kills.

“Our season isn't going to end today, but that's no consolation,” ASU head coach Chuck Waddington said. “We wanted to win the conference championship and just didn't play well enough to get that. We wanted to be better today, and we weren't. Give a lot of credit to them, they helped us not play our best.”

Ashley Davis led WTAMU with 16 kills and Lacy Hayes paced the Lady Buffs with 38 assists in the match. WTAMU extended its LSC winning streak to 84 wins with the victory and won its 13th LSC Championship title.

“They did a great job of blocking against us,” Waddington said. “They had a great game plan and did a great job on our outside hitters. They played really well against us.”

ASU is now 30-10 all-time and WTAMU 36-4 in LSC tournament play.
