SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 16 Angelo State Belles volleyball team will return to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. for a Lone Star Conference match with Cameron University at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
The Belles dropped back-to back games for the first time all season after a five-set defeat in Abilene Christian, Tuesday. Angelo State (26-4, 15-3 LSC) also fell to No. 13 West Texas A&M last Saturday. The Belles last losing streak came a little over a year ago to then-ranked No. 7 Washburn on Oct. 2 follow by a defeat to then-ranked No. 21 Abilene Christian on Oct. 5.
The Belles were able to lock up the No. 2 seed for the LSC Tournament, the highest seed earned under head coach
Chuck Waddington. The tournament will start next Thursday, Nov. 10 at West Texas A&M.
Angelo State has won its last four matches against the Aggies, including a 3-0 sweep in Cameron on Oct. 6. Senior outside hitter
Celeste Bonter had 17 kills in that match and leads the Belles with 295 total kills on the year and is averaging 2.86 kills-per-set. Junior setter
Alex Woolsey had a career-high 60 assists versus West Texas A&M this past weekend.
The Aggies (14-12, 8-9 LSC) won their match with Midwestern State on Tuesday, 3-1, at home and are coached by first-year head coach Doug Tabbert. Offensively, Cameron is led by freshman right side Kelle Carver, who notched 16 kills against the Belles early this season. Sophomore setter Jenna Risoli has 1,026 assists for the Aggies.
The Belles fell to No. 4 in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings, as announced Wednesday morning. Angelo State is one of three LSC teams ranked in the region along with West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian.
The Belles will play its final match of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 5 versus Midwestern State at 2 p.m. Angelo State will honor seniors Bonter,
