AUSTIN –
Angelo State's top four scorers all dropped strokes from their opening-round totals and keyed a 20-stroke improvement as the Rambelles finished in sixth place at the St. Edward's Invitational Tuesday. ASU shot 332-312--644 (+76) on the par-71, 6,060-yard Grey Rock Golf Course.

Freshman Courtney Rutledge dropped eight strokes from her first-day tally to finish as the Belles top shooter in Tuesday's round. She finished the tournament tied for 17th with a 84-76--160 (+18), one stroke behind Krista Czarnecki, who led the Belles with a 81-78--159 (+17).

"The conditions were much nicer today and we improved a lot," Angelo State head coach Kathleen Price said. "We had a lot of good up and down's and bounce back birdies after troublesome holes. We had four scores in the 70s but every single one of the players will tell you there were some things they could have done a little better."

Randee Stegman and Maury McCormick both turned in rounds of 79 Tuesday, a three-stroke improvement for Stegman and a six-stroke improvement for McCormick from the first 18 holes. Skylar Smith shot a 90 in the second round and Makenzie Stone turned in an 86, but neither counted towards the team total.

"Randee was sick all day long and she toughed it out," Price said. "That to me was amazing. Our team showed a lot of character today. (ASU assistant Coach Jimmy Tidwell) and I are so proud of what they did. It was a great way to walk off the golf course."

Angelo State gained two strokes on Central Oklahoma but finished behind the Lady Bronchos (642). Tarleton State (613) edged St. Edward's (616) for the team title. Incarnate Word's Joanna De Sa Peirera shot a 2-over-144 to claim individual champion honors.
