Final Stats (pdf)

SAN ANGELO – For the second-consecutive game, Chelsey Walters had multiple hits and tallied four RBIs to lead the No. 1 Angelo State softball team to a 6-2 win, and series sweep, against Lone Star Conference foe Texas A&M-Kingsville at the ASU Softball Complex Saturday in San Angelo.

Alix Dean sparked a two-out rally in the bottom of the first for Angelo State (23-1, 3-0 LSC South) after doubling down the right field line. DeeshanaLynn Tafiti followed suit, as she smacked another two-bagger to left center, which plated Dean to give ASU an early lead, 1-0.

“We changed my swing a little bit this past week during practice, and it really helped out,” said Dean. “The whole team has made some offensive adjustments to their swing; it's really worked out.”

The Rambelles' offensive production carried over into the second frame as the 'Belles plated two runs on two hits. With runners on second and third, Walters lifted the ball off the right-field wall for a standup double to give Angelo State a 3-0 lead. The Javelinas (13-13, 0-3 LSC South) would respond with a run in the third inning, however, ASU countered with a tally of its own in the fourth, making it a 4-1 ball game.

Elsa Apo had a lead-off single to begin the top of the sixth, which was followed by a Brittany Astle walk. The 'Belles would play some small ball and advance 60 feet after Amanda Wilhelm laid down a sacrifice bunt. With runners in scoring position, Walters ripped a single up the middle to score two and give the 'Belles a 6-2 victory.

Claire Molina was the winning pitcher for Angelo State. The junior from San Bernardino, Calif., threw a complete game, allowing just two runs on six hits, and improved to 9-0 on the year.

Angelo State will continue Lone Star Conference play as it hosts Incarnate Word at the ASU Softball Complex March 18 with the first pitch slated for 5 p.m.
