‘Belles Split Doubleheader with Tarleton

Game 1 // Final Box | Game 2 // Final Box

STEPHENVILLE
– For the second-consecutive game, the top-ranked Angelo State softball team scored multiple runs in the seventh inning to secure a win against Tarleton State in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in Stephenville. Brittany Astle's single down the right-field line plated the final two runs and gave the Rambelles a 7-4 victory. The Rambelles would drop the second game, 4-3.

In game one, Angelo State (27-3, 7-2 LSC South) jumped to a 4-1 lead in the first three innings. In the second inning, the 'Belles took advantage of a pair of Tarleton (16-12-1, 6-4-1 LSC South) errors to score a pair of runs. An inning later, ASU scored two more runs. Kacie Easley led off with a single and would score after Chelsey Walters tripled to right center. Walters would eventually score on an Alix Dean groundout.

Tarleton State would eventually tie the game, 4-4, in the fifth inning, however, the 'Belles scored three seventh-inning runs to take the lead for good. With two outs in the seventh, Elsa Apo singled through the right side to bring home Luz'Ce Baca waiting at second. Astle then singled down the right-field line to score two more and secure the 7-3 win.

“Brittany and Elsa have both been swinging the bat great for us all weekend,” said head coach Travis Scott. “It's good to see them really drive the ball when it matters. We gave Brittany the green light on a 3-0 count and she hit a line drive to right field, which was huge.”

Mary Kate McKay threw 5.1 innings of work before handing the ball over to Claire Molina who threw the final 1.2 innings. Molina picked up the win and improved to 13-0 on the season.

In the final game of the series, Tarleton jumped to an early lead by scoring three runs on four hits in the first inning. The 'Belles chipped away at the deficit, scoring a run in the third inning on a Kaycee Taylor solo home run, and eventually tying the game in the fifth. The fifth inning began with a single by Kacie Easley, followed by a double from Walters to put runners on second and third. Easley would eventually score on a fielder's choice to make it a one-run game. With the bases loaded, Tarleton walked in the tying run.

Despite giving up two runs in the top of the fifth, Tarleton's Samantha Swanda homered to give the TexAnnes the lead and lifted them to a 4-3 victory.

Up next for ASU is a top-five showdown as the No. 1 Rambelles take on the third-ranked Midwestern Mustangs in the opening game of the Lone Star Crossover Tournament in San Angelo April 1.
