‘Belles Bucked by Bronchos, 9-1

Final Box

SAN ANGELOChelsey Walters recorded two hits and pushed her hitting streak to five games against Central Oklahoma but that was the only bright spot as the No. 2 Angelo State softball team dropped a 9-1 decision to the Bronchos at the LSC Crossover Tournament at the Texas Bank Sports Complex Saturday.

Walters went 2-for-3 at the plate and collected the 'Belles only two hits of the day against UCO starter Rachael Steverson. After smooth sailing at the beginning of the year winning 23 of their first 24 games, the Rambelles have hit rough waters dropping three of their last four contests.

“We aren't playing real well right now, but we certainly don't need to hit the panic button yet,” said head coach Travis Scott. “Our approach at the plate was much better today; we didn't chase a lot of bad pitches, but Steverson's a great pitcher for UCO. Hopefully we can clean our game up, and come out and get some wins (Sunday).”

Central Oklahoma (17-15) opened the game with an offensive surge highlighted by Kacie Edward's three-run homer in the top of the first. The Bronchos would go on to plate eight runs on eight hits over the first two innings to build an 8-0 advantage.

Angelo State (28-5) looked to chip away at the deficit in the top of the third after a pair of walks and a base hit loaded the bases. Kaycee Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to left field which brought home Brittany Astle to make it an 8-1 ballgame; however, that would be the lone run of the inning, and the game, for the 'Belles, after a foul out and a fly out ended the threat. The Bronchos would take on another run in the bottom of the fourth to run-rule Angelo State, 9-1.

The LSC Crossover Tournament will conclude Sunday at the Texas Bank Sports Complex. The Rambelles will play two games, the first against Cameron at 10 a.m., followed by a 2:30 p.m., matchup against East Central. Live stats will be available for both games on AngeloSports.com, while Jeremy Bryant will broadcast the East Central game live on KKSA 1260.
