Women’s Golf Signs Two More for 2011-12

SAN ANGELO – The Rambelle golf team signed Ashley Bartholomew and Jordan Jernigan to national Letters of Intent (NLI) to continue their athletic and academic careers at Angelo State, as announced by head coach Kathleen Price Tuesday.

Bartholomew arrives from Mansfield, where she was a four-year letter winner for Mansfield High School. As a team captain since her junior year, she led the Lady Tigers to a District 5A tournament championship.

Bartholomew earned all-district honors her junior and senior seasons, was named to the UIL Academic All-State in 2010 and was a regional qualifier. She also finished in the top five in several junior events including wins at the Fort Worth City Tournament and Pecan Plantation Junior Championships last summer.

“Ashley brings so much to our program,” Price said. “She will continue to showcase the importance of balancing academics and athletics at ASU and we are fortunate to have her as a member of next year's squad. She has grown up around golf and realizes the importance of course management and hard work and is a great fit for our program.”

Jernigan hails from Monahans, where she was a two-sport athlete in both golf and volleyball at Monahans High School. Teaming with current Rambelle golfer Courtney Rutledge, Jernigan helped the Lady Loboes win the District 3A Championships and the state championship her senior year, after a runner-up finish the previous year.

As an individual, Jernigan has an impressive resume. In her prep career she finished all-district all four years, was named all-state her junior and senior years while having top-10 finishes at the state tournament including a fourth-place finish her senior year. Jernigan was also named Academic All-State her senior year and won the Monahans News Outstanding Athlete of the Year. She originally signed on to continue her golf career at McLennan Community College (Waco).

“Jordan is one of those athletes who epitomize the term 'student-athlete',” Price said. “She will be a great addition to our team and her reputation as a solid player is evident and will make our team better because of her work ethic and perspective on life. I am anxious to get started and get her going with our training program and quality lessons.”

The tandem joins Abby Bobo from Wichita Falls in the 2010-11 recruiting class, who signed during the fall early period. The Rambelles return four of their top five players next season, with Randee Stegman the only graduating senior. Angelo State concluded its season last week at the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament.
