Final Box (pdf)

DENTON
– Despite five Angelo State players recording multiple hits Friday night, the 13th-ranked Rambelles dropped game one of a three-game series, 5-4, against Lone Star Conference opponent Texas Woman's at Pioneer Field. Elsa Apo (2-for-4), Brittany Astle (2-for-3), Alix Dean (2-for-4), Morgan Spearman (3-for-4) and Chelsey Walters (2-for-4) combined for 11 of the Belles 12 hits in the loss.

Angelo State (39-9, 14-5 LSC South) jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage after scoring three runs on five hits in the second. Astle began the frame with a lead-off walk, and would advance to third on a Spearman single. With one out, Taylor had an RBI groundout that scored Astle and moved Spearman to third. Walters then ripped a single to left center to score Spearman and give the 'Belles a 2-0 lead. After a wild pitch and a stolen base, Walters was on third with Alix Dean at the dish. The senior from Collinsville delivered, scooting a ball through the right side for her 35th RBI of the season.

The Belles multi-run cushion evaporated in the fourth inning, after Texas Woman's (27-23, 10-9 LSC South) scored four runs on six hits. The inning was highlighted by the Pioneer's Lizzy Kelly, who hit a two-run home run over the right-centerfield wall. This was the sophomore's third roundtripper of the season, which gave the Pioneers a 5-3 edge through four.

ASU cut the deficit in half in the following inning. With two outs, Astle collected her second hit of the evening after singling to center. Spearman then doubled to left field which scored Astle from first to make it a 5-4 game. This was as close as the 'Belles would come.

Texas Woman's pitcher Kaylee Davis (6-7) picked up the win, tossing a complete game, while striking out six. ASU's Claire Molina took just her fifth loss of the season and is now 20-5 on the year.

Angelo State will return to the diamond Saturday for a doubleheader against the Pioneers to conclude the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., at Pioneer Yard with the second game to immediately follow.
