Game 1 | Final Box // Game 2 | Final Box

DENTON –
The No. 13 Angelo State softball team was crowned the Lone Star Conference South Division Regular Season Champion while securing the top seed in the South Division of the LSC Softball Championship after splitting a doubleheader against LSC foe Texas Woman's Saturday. Elsa Apo went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in game one to lead the Belles to a 6-2 victory, which solidified ASU's sixth regular-season championship.

With the game tied, 1-1, after the first inning, Angelo State (40-10, 15-6 LSC South) broke open game one of the doubleheader after scoring four runs on four hits in the second frame. With two outs and runners in scoring position, Chelsey Walters pulled the ball to left field and scored two. Kaycee Taylor then singled through the left side to score Walters and gave the Belles a three-run cushion. The final run of the second came off the bat of Apo. The junior hit a comebacker up the middle to score Taylor and give Angelo State a 5-1 advantage.

Apo's recorded her third hit in the fourth inning, as she singled to right field to score Taylor. The Rambelles went on to win game one, 6-2, as Mary Kate McKay picked up the win.

McKay improved to 14-2 after throwing the first 5.0 innings before handing the ball over to teammate Jessica Newsome. The junior closed out the game without allowing a hit, while striking out one.

In the rubber match, Texas Woman's (29-24, 11-10 LSC South) jumped out to a 2-0 lead through two innings after Bailey Vrazel hit a two-run double to center. The nationally-ranked Rambelles evened the contest, 2-2, in the third inning which began with back-to-back singles from Brittany Astle and Morgan Spearman. After a groundout moved the runners into scoring position, Walters hit a sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game. Alix Dean then delivered an RBI single through the left side, which tied the game, 2-2.

The Pioneers regained the lead in the fourth inning, after Vrazel hit another RBI double. The freshman's double to left-center field proved to be the game winner, as TWU went on to win the game, and the series, 3-2.

Texas Woman's Kaylee Davis was the winning pitcher, putting in 4.2 innings of work in the circle while striking out three. ASU's McKay took the loss, and is now 14-3 on the year.

The Rambelles have concluded the regular season and will now turn their attention to the LSC Softball Championship May 5-7, in Durant, Okla. ASU earned the top seed in the South Division and will square off with either Cameron or Southwestern Oklahoma May 5 at noon.
