WICHITA FALLS – What a difference a day makes. Angelo State could not buy a run against Emporia State, but 24 hours later scored 15 runs on 13 hits en route to a 15-0 run-rule win against Texas A&M-International in game four of the South Central Regional at Mustangs Park. Leading the offensive surge for the 21st-ranked Belles was senior
Alix Dean, who went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
“Hitting is contagious, and that's exactly what we needed” said head coach
Travis Scott. “We had great at bats and hit the ball hard.”
While the offense shined in the batter's box, ASU's
Mary Kate McKay (15-4) excelled in the circle, as the freshman threw a 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits against the Dustdevils.
Angelo State (43-13) sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the first and saw three different Texas A&M-International (32-29) pitchers which resulted in six runs on just three hits. The trio of pitchers combined to throw 44 pitches in the inning with just 17 of those for strikes.
Brittany Astle, Dean,
Kacie Easley and
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti all had RBIs in the frame.
The Belles' offense erupted again in the fourth inning, as ASU sent nine batters to the dish and scored five runs on five hits. The five hits were consecutive, which was highlighted by Easley's two-run double. Angelo State would go on to secure a 15-0 win after a four-run fifth inning.
Up next for the Belles is a rematch against Emporia State beginning at 4 p.m., today at Mustangs Park in Wichita Falls.
