SAN ANGELO – The No. 18-ranked Angelo State volleyball team stayed undefeated on the season with a 3-0 Lone Star Conference win over Eastern New Mexico on Thursday at the Junell Center. The Belles (15-0, 7-0 LSC) improved to 7-0 at home and won a match in straight sets for the 10th time this season with the victory. ENMU fell to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in conference with the 25-11, 25-14, 25-15 loss.

Box Score

“We have the mentality to take care of our side of the court,” ASU head coach Chuck Waddington said. “We try to come out focused every match, regardless of our opponent or their record. We really did a great job of playing a complete match.”

Alex Woolsey, the LSC's Setter of the Week for the past three selections, led the Belles with 37 assists and contributed nine digs. Celeste Bonter paced the team with 11 kills and added three digs, while Kayla Smith and Shelby Wilt had 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Debbie Ohl and Maddie Huth added eight kills in the win

The Belles are back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday against No. 17 West Texas A&M back at the Junell Center. The Lady Buffs will come into San Angelo with a 12-1 record and off a 3-0 win over Abilene Christian on Tuesday.

“It will be a good match,” Waddington said of West Texas A&M. “They are a very good team. Our approach has to remain the same against them as it has been against every opponent we've played this season. It's easy to say that, but with our team, that is how it is. We go in and manage our side of the court and try to do it better than the team across the net. We are going to play hard, play for points, and see what happens.

Coach's Quotes

Head coach Chuck Waddington

On playing at home after Tuesday's  3-2 comeback win on the road at Texas A&M-Kingsville:
I know that our entire team was glad to be back at home. The lead up to today's game was normal, unlike the game at Texas A&M-Kingsville where we had to sit around all day. Being on the road and playing well is hard to do. They came out focused today and played the way we should on our home court.

On the Belles' ability to put ENMU in straight sets:
We have the mentality to take care of our side of the court. We try to come out focused every match, regardless of our opponent or their record. We really did a great job of playing a complete match.

On the team's strength in the match against ENMU:
We defended a lot better than we have the last couple of matches. Our middles were scoring pretty easily because our defense was making great transitions.

On facing No. 17 West Texas A&M on Saturday at the Junell Center:
It will be a good match. They are a very good team. Our approach has to remain the same against them as it has been against every opponent we've played this season. It's easy to say that, but with our team, that is how it is. We go in and manage our side of the court and try to do it better than the team across the net. We are going to play hard, play for points, and see what happens.

On the Belles' mentality of being 15-0 on the season:
Why stop? Our mindset is to keep on playing. Keep playing for the next point.
