DENVER, Colo. – The Angelo State volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 28-26) win over Adams State on Thursday in the quarterfinals at the Regis Fieldhouse.

Maddie Huth added 13 kills and five blocks.
Alex Woolsey distributed 42 assists and helped the Belles to a .368 team hitting percentage in the match – including a .390 percentage in the close-out set.
“We were really able to put the things we have been working on all season together,” Booth said. “We were connecting really well with our hitters and setters and our defense did a great job of setting it up. When that all comes together it's going to be a great match.”
The Belles (28-5) will play at 7:30 p.m. (MT) on Friday against top-seeded Regis University which won a 5-set quarterfinal match against Metro State that followed the ASU victory. ASU has now advanced to the semifinals of the regional for the second straight season and the fourth time in program history.
“It was a great match,” ASU head coach
Chuck Waddington said. “Adams State is one of the most athletic teams we have played all year long. They weren't afraid to take big swings and their setter put them in great positions even when they were out of system. We knew we were going to have to fight. I'm proud of our team for staying calm and played how I want them to play under pressure.”
Huth had a .565 hitting percentage on 23 attacks and Booth had a .538 percentage on 26 attacks.
Shelby Wilt and
Katie MacLeay topped the Belles in digs on the night with eight each, while
Kaelen Valdez added seven digs.
Shelbi Goode had seven kills and
Chelsea Gibson and
Leah McWilliams each added another four kills.
Dominique Davis led Adams State with 16 kills and 10 digs with Gabriella Fifilato providing the Grizzlies with 39 assists. Adams State ends its season with a 24-6 record. Angelo State is now 5-2 all-time against the Grizzlies and are 4-6 all-time in the NCAA Division II postseason.
The Belles join West Texas A&M and Colorado School of Mines who both advanced in earlier quarterfinal matches. ASU will play the regional host on Friday and are looking to advance to its first regional final in program history.
“If we play our style of volleyball, we can compete against anybody,” Waddington said.
