SAN ANGELO, Texas – With a pair of convincing wins this past weekend, the No. 16 Angelo State softball team will take its momentum down to Laredo for a doubleheader against Texas A&M-International on Tuesday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
The Rambelles (3-2) are hitting .391 as a team led by
Elsamartina Apo and
Kacie Easley. Apo has a team-high .727 average with seven RBIs, while Easley is batting .611 with a team-best two home runs and 18 total bases.
“I was thrilled with the way we played last Saturday, and I know our team is excited about this week,” Angelo State head coach
Travis Scott said. “International lost a lot of people to graduation, so they will be a brand new team when we see them (Tuesday).”
The last meeting between the two programs came in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament last season where the Rambelles cruised to a 15-0 victory. With the win, Angelo State improved to 11-0 in the all-time series.
Kristen LaBuhn is batting .387 to lead TAMIU offensively while fourth-year head coach Scotty Libby has used Sarah Johnson (2-2) and Kyndall Reaves (5-5) as his primary pitchers. The Dustdevils are 3-8 on the year and have dropped their last four contests.
