DURANT, Okla.  –The Angelo State softball team earned a dramatic 9-6 come-from-behind win against No. 12 Arkansas-Monticello in Game 2 of the South Central Shootout on Friday after scoring seven runs in the seventh inning to secure its seventh consecutive win. The 16th-ranked Rambelles earned a 10-1 victory in their morning game versus Southern Arkansas at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex and improved to 7-2 on the season.

“These wins were huge for us, because it was a team win,” Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. “We used our whole lineup, and it's a real confidence booster. I'm proud of our girls, and I know they're ready to get back out on the field.”

In Game 2, Angelo State entered the seventh inning down 6-2 facing the Blossoms' ace Kayla Jackson. ASU would get a quick run before loading the bases for Morgan Spearman. The sophomore from Kennedale proceeded to clear the bases, as she took an outside pitch to the opposite field for her first career grand slam. A few batters later, Kacie Easley hit a two-run blast to put the Belles up 9-6 and secure their first win over a ranked opponent this season.

Mary Kate McKay got the start for ASU, before Claire Molina came on in relief in the sixth. Molina (4-2) picked up the win after throwing 2.0 innings, while Jackson (1-1) suffered her first loss of the season.

In Game 1, the Rambelles trailed 1-0 entering the third inning against Southern Arkansas until Lauren Smith stepped in the box. The junior hit a three-run blast – the first of her career – to put Angelo State up 3-1. It was a pair of firsts, as April Breshears also hit a three-run homer.

Molina threw 4.0 innings before handing the ball over to Kat Massey. The freshman retired the final three batters in order to give Angelo State a 10-1 win.

Due to forecasted rain, the Rambelles will play Henderson State tonight at 7 p.m.
