DENTON, Texas – The Angelo State softball team cruised to an 18-2 victory over Central Missouri in the final game of the 2012 Best Western Premier Spring Fling on Sunday. The No. 8 Rambelles recorded just seven hits, but drew a season-high 11 walks and five hit-by-pitches en route to the highest offensive production of the season.
Offensively, the Belles (12-3) had four players with multiple RBIs and three who earned two or more walks.
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti's led the team with three RBIs after launching her seventh home run of the season, while
Elsamartina Apo earned four free passes on the day.
“We were patient at the plate, which was the difference maker,” Angelo State head coach
Travis Scott said. “The girls had good at bats and were selective.”
Claire Molina earned the win and improved to 7-2 on the season. The senior lefty threw her second consecutive complete game and struck out two without allowing a walk.
The Belles scored three runs in the top of the first highlighted by Carly Peter's two-run single. Central Missouri countered in the bottom half scoring two runs on two errors, but Molina would not surrender a run the rest of the game.
In third inning, Tafiti hit a three-run blast to put Angelo State up 9-2. The runs kept coming for the Belles, as they scored nine runs on four hits in the fifth.
April Breshears and
Taylor Jensen each had two-run singles in the frame.
With the 18-2 victory, the Belles finished the 2012 Best Western Premier Spring Fling with a 4-1 record.
The Rambelles return to the confines of the ASU Softball Complex for a non-conference doubleheader against Texas A&M-International. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
