Four Provisional Marks for Rams and Rambelles

ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rams and Rambelles picked up four NCAA Division II provisional marks with two in the decathlon and heptathlon at the Spring Break Multi-Event Meet at the LeGrand Sports Complex on Thursday.
 
On the men's side Stormy Smothers was second overall with a NCAA Division II provisional score of 6,818 points. He ran the fastest 1500m of the day at 4:25.14 but was unable to overtake Parker Petty from Abilene Christian. Smothers scored big in the 110m hurdles running a 15.87 while throwing the discus 118'-5” (36.10m). He cleared 13'-11” (4.24m) in the pole vault and got a mark of 142'-11” (43.56m) in the javelin.
 
Shane Homes was the second with a NCAA Division II provisional mark as he scored 6,587 points. Fighting through injury the Iraan native was steady in all five events. He ran 16.62 in the hurdles and a 4:55.86 in the 1500m. He threw the discus 115'-7” (35.24m) and the javelin 154'-6” (47.09m). The junior cleared the bar at 13'-11” (4.24m) in the pole vault.
 
The Rambelles had a big day from both Jordan Gray and Cathryn Rittenberry had personal bests on the day in the women's heptathlon. Gray, a freshman, was third place overall with a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 4,516 points while Rittenberry was right behind in fourth with a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 4,452.
 
Gray earned big points in the long jump with her leap of 17'-11.50” (5.47m) for 691 points. It took all three throws for the freshman to get a mark in the javelin but she got a throw of 61'-8” (18.80M). She ran the 800M, the final event of the day, in a time of 2:27.94.
 
Rittenberry jumped 17'-11.75” (5.48m) in the long jump to pick up 694 points and threw the javelin 87'-9” (26.74m). She crossed the line in 2:31.95 in the 800m in the final event.
 
The Rams also had Donald Macarthy finish in seventh with a score of 6,038. Monica McCafferty had a good day for the Rambelles but finished in 10th with 3,241 points due to not scoring points in the hurdles yesterday.
 
The next meet for the Rams and Rambelles will be the Cactus Cup Open held in Kingsville, Texas.
