SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team travels to Abilene for a doubleheader against Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. at Wells Field.
“These are going to be some big games as we come down the stretch,” Angelo State head coach
Travis Scott said. “Both teams have gained some momentum from last week, and are trying to put themselves in great position to win conference.”
The Rambelles and Wildcats each earned LSC series wins this past week. Angelo State swept Texas Woman's at the ASU Softball Complex, while ACU took two-of-three from Cameron in Lawton, Okla.
The No. 12 Belles are currently sitting at the top of the conference with a 15-3 LSC record and 32-7 overall. The Wildcats are in a share of third place with the Pioneers, as ACU is 11-6 in league play and 25-10 on the year.
Offensively, Angelo State is hitting .346 on the season, while holding its opponents to a .243 average.
Elsamartina Apo (.477),
Kacie Easley (.438),
April Breshears (.405) and
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti (.397) are all hitting above .395 this season. Tafiti is the Belles' power threat, as the senior has smashed 13 homeruns, registered 57 RBIs and recorded 94 total bases – all team bests.

Claire Molina and
Mary Kate McKay have combined for 25 complete games this season. Molina is 17-4 on the season with 114 strikeouts and a 2.86 earned run average. Meanwhile, McKay is 17-3 with a 2.11 ERA in 136.1 innings pitched.
Behind second year head coach Bobby Reeves, Abilene Christian is hitting .288 as a team and outslugging its opponents .424 to .386 this season. Kimberly Briggs has paced ACU's attack, as the junior is hitting .351 on the season with a team-best 32 RBIs and six home runs.
Peyton Mosley (9-5) and Caitlyn Crain (12-3) share the ball in the circle, as they have combined for a 21-8 record. Mosley has a 1.92 earned run average and is limiting opponents to a .214 batting average, while Crain boasts a 2.16 ERA and a team-best 100.2 innings pitched.
The two schools met four times last season with the Belles winning all four contests. With the wins, Angelo State now holds a 31-10 all-time record against the Wildcats.
