Kacie at the Bat; Belles Earn 2-0 Win

Final Box

SAN ANGELO, Texas
– Junior catcher Kacie Easley launched a two-run home run to left field which was all the Angelo State softball team needed in its 2-0 victory over St. Edward's in the NCAA Division II Softball South Central Regional on Friday.

“Kacie's hit was huge for us,” Angelo State head coach Travis Scott said. “She gave us some early momentum and the girls fed off of it.”

Lauren Smith drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the first to set the table for Easley. The Temple native proceeded to hit her 10th home run of the season in front of 573 fans at the ASU Softball Complex. The two-run cushion was all ASU starting pitcher Claire Molina needed en route to her 25th win of the season.

Molina (25-4) threw a complete-game, six-hit shutout and is now 25-4 on the season and 48-12 for her career. The hard-throwing lefty retired 13 of the final 15 batters, as the senior picked up her 15th complete game of season.

“Claire had great control and command tonight,” said Scott. “Her rise ball was working, and she was hitting her locations.”

(1) Angelo State improved to 45-9 with the win and will return to action on Saturday against (5) Texas Woman's at 2 p.m. The (8) Hilltoppers fall to 29-20 on the season and will play (4) Missouri Western State at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.
