Women’s Track & Field Tied For Second in the Nation With 11 All-Academic Honorees

Rittenberry was named to her fourth All-Academic from this past season

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Eleven members of the Angelo State women's track and field team were honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association by being named to the 2012 Division II All-Academic Track & Field team as announced by the association on Wednesday.
 
Chrystal Ruiz earned a spot for the second straight year from her performance during the indoor season. She was joined on the team for the consecutive year by Kati Holly, Cathryn Rittenberry, Summer Sutherland and Kimberly Williams who collected the accolades based from outdoor track. Other first time honorees were Kelsey Coffman, Aimee Denham, Ashlie Francis, Jordan Gray, Monica McCafferty and Jaylen Rodgers.
 
The 11 student-athletes for ASU were tied for second most on the list along with Winona State and the University of Mary. Grand Valley State led the way nationally for the third-straight year with 24 named to the All-Academic team.
 
This is the fourth All-Academic team that Rittenberry has been named to from this past season and the third for Ruiz. Rittenberry was also named the 2011-12 Lone Star Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a two-time LSC Track and Field Academic Athlete of the Year.
 
Over 300 student-athletes representing 82 institutions were honored by the USTFCCCA. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons.
