Blackwater Draw, NM – Angelo State (3-2, 2-0) quarterbacks Blake Hamblin and Michael Cochran combined for 341 yards passing and two touchdowns as the Rams remained unbeaten in the Lone Star Conference with a 49-19 victory at Eastern New
Mexico (2-3, 1-1).

Hamblin completed 7 of 10 passes for 171 yards and two scores and picked up 15 yards on two carries and another score leading ASU to a 28-6 halftime lead.

Hamblin was injured late in the first half and did not return in the second half.

Cochran ran the ASU offense for most of the second half before leaving with an injury of his own in the fourth quarter and completed 7 of 10 passes for 170 yards.

ASU receiver C.J. Akins had four catches for 160 yards and a score while running back Jermie Calhoun had 10 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Eastern New Mexico quarterback Wesley Wood completed 10 of 14 passes for 79 yards and a score and ran the ball 21 times for 79 yards.

The Rams used four quarterbacks in the game including redshirt freshmen Kyle Washington and Warren Truesdale.

The four combined to complete 17 of 24 passes for 366 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while compiling 50 yards rushing and two more scores.

The Angelo State defense held the Greyhound offense to just 216 total yards including 137 on the rushing.  Eastern New Mexico came into the game averaging 359 yards per game including 206 on the ground.

Angelo State did not punt until there were just under four minutes left in the game and converted its first nine third down attempts on offense, finishing 9 of 11.

ASU led 28-6 at the half and opened the second half by driving 69 yards in 5 plays and scoring on Donavan Roberts' 6-yard run to increase its lead to 35-6. 

Cochran, in his first action of the year, made several key plays on the drive including a 15-yard run on third and five from the ASU 36-yard line and a 43-yard pass completion to Dakarai Pecikonis to set up Robert's touchdown run.

The Greyhounds rallied back to score two touchdowns within 1:05 to cut the Ram lead to 35-19.

Wood threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Metzger in the corner of the end zone on fourth down and goal and three plays later Perron Sellers ran an ASU fumble 40 yards for a score to get the Greyhounds back into the game.

But Calhoun rallied the Ram offense, driving ASU 65 yards in six plays with Calhoun scoring from nine yards out to bump the lead back to 42-19.

The only score of the fourth quarter came when Washington came off the bench for Calhoun and finished off a 13-play, 83-yard scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run on fourth and goal.

The Rams dominated the first half, scoring on their first play from scrimmage on the way to a 28-6 halftime advantage.

Hamblin hit Akins over the middle and he ran away from the Greyhound defense for an 89-yard touchdown pass just under two and a half minutes into the game to give ASU a quick 7-0.

Eastern New Mexico had first and ten at the ASU 17-yard line on its next possession, but the Rams stopped the Greyhounds and Eastern had to settle for a 30-yard field goal by Dylan Baca.

The Rams answered right back with a nine-play 80-yard drive that was capped by a four-yard scramble by Hamblin to increase the lead to 14-3 with just under three and a half minutes left in the first quarter.

Hamblin's scoring run was set up by his 49-yard completion to Talon Smith on the previous play.

The Ram defense forced a three and out on Eastern's next possession and then drove 71 yards in 15 plays, taking just over six minutes off the clock and culminating with Hamblin's 5-yard scoring pass to Joey Knight.

On Eastern New Mexico's next play from scrimmage Ram linebacker Rush Seaver intercepted Wesley Wood's pass at the Greyhound 25-yard line and returned it for a touchdown to give ASU a 28-3 lead.

The Greyhounds appeared to be grabbing some momentum going into the break as they drove to the Ram 10-yard line, but the ASU defense stiffened again as Jeremy Johnson sacked Wood on third and eight and Baca kicked a 28-yard field goal.

The Rams accumulated 185 of their 238 first half yards in the first quarter.

The Ram defense held the Greyhounds to just 101 yards in the first half including 80 yards rushing on 26 carries.
