Rams Fall to Greyhounds in Overtime in the Junell Center

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team was outscored 12-6 in overtime and saw a 17-point second-half lead disappear in an 87-81 Lone Star Conference loss to Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Rams (5-14, 2-9 LSC) led 49-32 with 17:30 remaining in the game before the Greyhounds (8-11, 5-6 LSC) mounted their comeback which took the game into overtime tied at 75. Greg McFarland scored the game-tying field goal for ENMU with 54 seconds remaining in regulation and the Greyhounds started the extra session on an 8-0 run to secure the road win.

Jovan Austin led the Rams with 18 points, including going 8 of 12 from the free-throw line. Austin scored all 18 in the second half, while Antonio Dye had his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds against the Greyhounds. Bryan Hammond added 16 points and five assists, while Chris Talkington contributed 14 points and Dakota Rawls 12.

The Rams went 7 of 17 from behind the 3-point line and finished the game shooting 39.4 percent. In overtime, ASU shot 1 of 6 (16.4 percent) from the floor with ENMU making eight free throws and knocking down its first two shots. ASU has now lost four straight games.

ENMU outscored the Rams 14-3 on second-chance points and 10-3 on points off turnovers. The Greyhounds improve to 1-1 in overtime games this season, while the extra session was the first of the year for the Rams.

McFarland led the Greyhounds with 17 points and five rebounds, while Rodney Blackmon had 15 points and Jordan Romero another 14. Rafael Love added 13 and Kyle Lantz 12. ENMU went 8 of 24 on 3-pointers and had a plus-six advantage in rebounding.

Angelo State returns to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday against West Texas A&M in Canyon.
