SAN ANTONIO – The Angelo State golf team had a 13-stroke improvement from the first round to the second and finished the Lady Rattler Roundup in ninth place after a second-round total of 318 on Tuesday at the par-72 Dominion Country Club.
ASU finished with a team total of 649, while Tarleton State won the tournament with a 291-305 – 596 and St. Edward's taking second (304-309 – 613). TSU's Isabell Jimenez-Perea won the tournament with a 142 (69-73).
“I'm pleased with the way we battled back today,” ASU head coach Kathleen Price said. “We just can't keep digging ourselves that deep of a hole and expect to beat some of these teams that we should be beating.”
Courtney Rutledge was the top Rambelle for the tournament after carding a 5-over, 77 on Tuesday following shooting an 82 on Monday. Rutledge was 25th overall with a two-round total of 159, while
Krista Czarnecki finished in 34th after shooting an 82 in her final round following a 79.
Maury McCormick made an eight-stroke improvement after shooting a 78 following yesterday's round of 86. McCormick finished in 44th with a two-round total of 164 and
Abby Bobo (85-81 – 166) and
Ashley Bartholomew (80-86 – 166) were 49th at the end of the tournament.
Liz Chavarria (85-87 -172) finished 67th.
“It was nice to see Courtney and Maury come out today and put together a good round,” Price said. “We know that we can hit the ball but we all have to play more consistent each day.”
Angelo State returns to competition at the St. Edward's Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at Grey Rock Golf Club in southwest Austin.
