SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team used four home runs to take down Texas A&M International 12-2 and 11-0 in Laredo on Tuesday afternoon.
“It was exactly the type of day we needed,” head coach
Travis Scott said after the games. “We played relaxed fun softball.
Lanie Robinson played good at shortstop and
Rachel Moore stepped up and had a huge day for us. I think we are starting to fill in some of the pieces to the puzzle. We are going to use the next week half off and work on the things we have identified that we need to work on.”
The Rambelles (11-5) moved to 4-0 on the road this season and snapped a two-game losing streak. The Dustdevils fell to 9-11 and have lost three games to ASU this season. The 11-0 five inning run-rule victory in the second game was the second shutout of the year for the Rambelles.
The first game of the day had ASU score its most runs of the season in a 12-2 six inning run-rule victory over Texas A&M International. ASU scored six runs through the first three innings and six runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Rachel Moore provided the power going 3-for-4 with two home runs. It was the first home runs of her ASU career.
Lauren Smith finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI's and three runs scored. The senior hit her first home run of the season with a two-run blast in the fourth inning.
Mary Kate McKay had a strong outing pitching six inning and only giving up two earned runs. It was her fourth win of the season.
The second game started with Angelo State jumping out to a 2-0 before exploding for eight runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.
Sandra Serna recorded her second shutout of the season in five innings of work. She only allowed two hits and struck out four batters in her seventh win of the season.
Ambra Hill highlighted the third inning with her first home run of her ASU career. She hit a three-run shot to left field.
Maddy McGarity, Easley and
Morgan Spearman all got hits in the inning and the Rambelles were walked twice and hit by a pitch in the third inning alone.
The Rambelles will now have a break until Texas A&M International comes to town on Saturday, March 2.
