AUSTIN –
The Angelo State golf team earned fifth place at the St. Edward's Invitational, while Maury McCormick and Abby Bobo tied for 15th in the individual standings after Tuesday's final round at the par-71 Grey Rock Golf Club.

Bobo (84-82) and McCormick (82-84) finished with two-day totals of 166 to lead the Rambelles at the tournament. Courtney Rutledge (85-84 – 169) finished 23rd overall with Krista Czarnecki (86-84 – 170) taking 25th and Ashley Bartholomew (88-89 – 177) finishing 44th  Liz Chavarria, who was playing as an individual at the tournament, shot a 179 (88-91) for 52nd.

“I'm really proud of the job the girls did at this tournament,” ASU coach Kathleen Price said. “It was an extremely tough tournament with the weather conditions and I couldn't be more excited by the way we battled out there. They did a great job of gutting it out and staying focused. We were competitive the entire tournament and it was a growing-up experience for us. I think we responded really well.”

St. Edward's won its home tournament by shooting a 632 (324-308), while Dallas Baptist cut 20 strokes off its first round total to finish second with a 658. Tarleton State was the highest Lone Star Conference team in the field with a third-place finish and team total of 663. Angelo State (337-334 -671) entered the final round in third place but slipped to fifth after DBU's charge and Lubbock Christian edging them by three strokes.

Ryanne Haddow of St. Edward's won the tournament after carding a two-round total of 155 and topping her teammate Haley Haught in a playoff. Haddow shot a 3-over 74 on Tuesday following an 81 on Monday's wind-tormented round.

The Rambelles will resume competition on Monday, March 18 at the Midwestern State Invitational being played at the Wichita Falls Country Club.

“I really believe we can use this tournament as a confidence booster moving forward,” Price said. “We have a couple of weeks off from competition and we can carry this week's success with us during our practice rounds and continue improving. I think we are headed in the right direction.”
