Rambelles Win Series Over ENMU

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
 The Angelo State softball team won the series with a 3-0 win in game two over Eastern New Mexico but would drop the finale 8-1 at the ASU Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Rambelles move to 19-7 overall and 5-1 in the LSC with the split. Eastern New Mexico is now 7-22 and 1-5 in LSC play.
 
The first game was a pitching duel between Mary Kate McKay and ENMU's Mary Jane Granger. Granger only gave up two hits through the first three innings. McKay was in trouble early with the bases loaded after three-straight singles. The junior forced a pop up to first base and then got a grounder to get the Rambelles out of the first inning.
 
She would go on to sit the Zias down in order in the second, third and fourth innings.
 
ASU would provide run support in the fourth and fifth inning. Lauren Smith would score the first run on a double by Rachel Moore. The bases would be loaded in the fourth but only one run would cross.
 
In the fifth, Kacie Easley would draw a walk and Smith reached on an error. Pinch runner Luz'Ce Baca would score on a double steal and Moore would again drive home Smith with a double for a 3-0 lead after four innings. Moore went 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI's.
 
McKay took care of the rest by only allowing two more hits. The junior won her sixth game of the year and first shutout of the season. She only gave up two walks and forced 12 ground outs.
 
Kacie Brann earned her first start of her career in game three. The Zias jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first getting four hits and two runs in the first inning.
 
The Rambelles would threaten in the bottom of the first loading the bases but couldn't score.
 
ENMU would go on to score one run in the second and third to take a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning. ASU would get a run in the fourth as Moore scored on a single by Lanie Robinson. It would be the only run the Rambelles would get in game three.
 
The Zias Katie Ramsay allowed six hits and only one run for the victory. Alberta Medina pitched the final 2.1 innings to earn the save.
 
Eastern New Mexico would add four runs in the final two innings to extend its lead to 8-1. Brann would be credited for the loss in two inningsn of work. Sandra Serna would come in to pitch 3.2 innings giving up three walks and one run before McKay pitched the final 1.1 innings. The junior gave up three runs on five hits.
 
The Rambelles will return to the diamond on Tuesday as they host St. Edward's in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
