SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team will host St. Edward's for a midweek doubleheader tomorrow at the ASU Softball Complex with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Rambelles moved to 19-7 and 5-1 in LSC play after taking a 2-1 series over Eastern New Mexico. St. Edward's brings in a record of 14-14 and are 4-5 on the road. It will be the second and third meetings between the two schools. ASU took a 10-1 victory at the St. Mary's Classic in early February.
ASU hit .338 as a team, slightly higher than the season average of .324, over the weekend and held ENMU scoreless during the first two games of the series.
Darian Dunn was the team leader in average hitting .500 (4-of-8) with a run scored.
Morgan Spearman is close to writing her name in the national record books. The junior took a 3-1 pitch in game one for the right field wall for her third grand slam of the season. It is Spearman's fifth career grand slam and she is now one away from tying the NCAA Division II record for grand slams in a single season and for a career.
Kacie Easley leads the Rambelles in average at .424 and has reached base in 14 consecutive games. The senior is the leader in slugging percentage (.788), on base percentage (.563) and walks (20). Ealsey is hitting .583 in conference play.
The Rambelles are hitting .329 as a team and the pitching staff has a 2.58 earned-run average during these first six games of conference.
Sandra Serna (3-0) and
Mary Kate McKay (2-0) have combined for 11 runs and striking out 12 in the last six games. Teams are only hitting .179 off of Serna and as a staff teams are held to a .252 batting average.
The first game between these two schools had Spearman, Dunn and
Carly Peters hit home runs. Spearman her first grand slam of the season against St. Edward's. McKay pitched five innings only allowing five hits and one run in the victory.
