WICHITA FALLS – Courtney Rutledge shot a 79 in the final round of the Midwestern State Invitational and a 158 total to finish in a tie for 10th, and the Angelo State golf team tied with West Texas A&M for sixth as a team with a 649 (326-323) at the par-72 Wichita Falls Country Club.
Rutledge's top-10 finish is her second of the season and fourth in her career. The junior from Monahans made five birdies in the tournament.
Abby Bobo shot an 80 in the final round to follow her 79 on Monday to finish with a 159 total and in 13th overall. Bobo, a sophomore who was playing in her hometown of Wichita Falls, now has three top-15 showings in her career at Angelo State.
Maury McCormick shot an 83 on both days of the tournament to finish with a 166 total and in tie for 41st, while
Krista Czarnecki cut seven shots off her first round with an 81 on Tuesday and completed the tournament with a 169 and in 55th.
Ashley Bartholomew (85-85 – 170) was 58th at the end of the tournament.
“I'm very proud of the girls for putting a nice tournament together,” ASU coach Kathleen Price said. “We are looking forward to carry over some momentum from the good things we did here into next week's tournament in Arkansas. It was a cold morning, but we responded well.”
Midwestern State won its home tournament with a 314-309 – 623, while Central Oklahoma (316-316 – 632) took second and Oklahoma Christian (317-318 -635) finished third. OCU's Anna Arrese Cortadel won the tournament in a playoff after carding a 72-74 – 146. Colorado State-Pueblo's HeeLeian Kim equaled Cortadel through 36 holes, but fell in the playoff.
The Rambelles return to competition next Monday and Tuesday at the UAFS Lions Classic being played at the Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Ark.
