SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 5-4 in game two of a doubleheader after falling 6-3 in game one to St. Edward's at the ASU Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rambelles (20-8) had to battle after St. Edward's (15-15) tied it up after being held scoreless in the first five innings. The Hilltoppers would score four runs on seven hits in the final two innings to tie the game at four.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Morgan Spearman started it off with single up the middle and was sacrificed over by
Maddy McGarity.
Kacie Easley took the first pitch she saw to left field to move Spearman to third. The very first pitch
Lauren Smith saw ended the game. She took the ball right up the middle to give the Rambelles a 5-4 win and their 20
th win of the season.
Sandra Serna got her 12
th win of the season after allowing four runs with only three earned. The Hilltoppers did scatter out 13 hits but Serna only gave up two walks.
Spearman started the game off in the first with a walk and later scoring on a single by Smith.
Carly Peters made noise in the second with a big two-run shot to left field that scored
Darian Dunn.
Ambra Hill would score in the second after hitting a triple for a 4-0 lead after two innings.
The first game of the day went St. Edward's way by a 6-3 score. The Hilltoppers would score the first two runs of the game in the first and third inning and follow it up with three runs in the fifth inning.
The Rambelles would be held scoreless until the third on a sacrifice fly by Easley that scored Spearman.
Hill led off the fifth with a walk and would steal her 12
th base of the season. Spearman would drive her home and would later score on a
Rachel Moore single.
Mary Kate McKay was credited with the loss giving up six earned runs on nine hits and four walks.
The Rambelles will travel to Midwestern State for a three-game Lone Star Conference series starting on Friday.
