WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Angelo State softball team took used a 4-3 come from behind victory to take the series from No. 19 Midwestern State before the Mustangs won the series finale 6-0 at Mustangs Park.
The Rambelles (22-9, 7-2 LSC) took the series on a game-winning single from
Brittney Davis in the first game of the day for a 4-3 victory before No. 19 Midwestern State (21-9, 5-4) held ASU to four hits in a 6-0 win in game three.
“It was a good weekend to be able to get two out of three on the road from a very good Midwestern State team,” head coach
Travis Scott said. “Some of our young players had big hits and solid defensive plays. We expect to use this momentum into next weekend series.”
In game one of the doubleheader No. 19 Midwestern State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Mustangs put their first two runners on with a hit by pitch and a walk before two hits and a passed ball scored the runs.
The Rambelles would cut it to 2-1 after
Lauren Smith singled to lead the inning off and would score on a sacrifice fly by
Lanie Robinson. Midwestern State would get the run back in the bottom of the inning on a solo shot by Katelyn Vinson to make it 3-1 at the end of three.
ASU would get to starter Kat Batey in the fifth and sixth. Robinson would double to lead-off the inning and score on a single by
Carly Peters to make it 3-2 after five.
Robinson would drive home her second RBI of the game with a single up the middle in the sixth that scored
Lauren Smith to tie the game at three. Davis would then provide the game-winner with a single to right field that would plate
Darian Dunn.
Starting pitcher
Sandra Serna found a groove after the first two innings. After giving up the three runs she would shut down the potent MSU offense by holding them to three hits and no runs over the final five innings.
The second game of the doubleheader was all Midwestern State.
The Mustang's starting pitcher Laci Belovsky held the Rambelles to four hits and no runs over seven innings.
MSU would score its first run in the second inning before breaking the game open in the fifth with a three-run home run by Carey Campbell that made it 6-0 in favor of the Mustangs.
Mary Kate McKay was credited with the loss giving up 10 hits and six total runs with only five being earned.
The Rambelles will host No. 1 West Texas A&M next weekend with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday night at the ASU Softball Complex.
