SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team split a double header with UT-Permian Basin losing the first game 4-3 and winning the second game 9-3 in Odessa on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rambelles moved to 14-6 on the season with the split. Overall ASU is 2-1 on the year versus the Falcons (4-16).
Lauren Smith and
Kacie Easley had big days for the Rambelles hitting a combined .538 (7-for-13) with two home runs, five doubles and five RBI's. Easley's two home runs put her three away from tying the ASU career record of 39 held by Macy Baker.
Lanie Robinson was the other standout on the day and she would see action all over the field playing shortstop in the first game and starting on the mound in the second with time at third as well.
The freshman would pitch four innings in her first career start and only give up two runs en route to her first win of her career at ASU.
After being held scoreless in the first inning, the Rambelles would score runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth inning.
Darian Dunn tied the game at two in the second inning with her second home run of the season. Easley would score in the fourth to make it 3-2 and Robinson would help her own cause in the fourth with an RBI to push the lead to 4-2.
The Rambelles would erupt in the fifth inning for four runs on five hits. Smith would hit one of her four doubles on the day and would later score. Easley tacked on the ninth run with her fourth home run of the season to make the final score 9-3.
Robinson would earn the win with
Kacie Brann providing two innings of no-hit ball in relief.
The first game the Rambelles got out to an early 1-0 lead after Smith drove in
Maddy McGarity on a double to left field. The Falcons would strike back with three runs including a home run to start the inning off ASU starter
Sandra Serna to make it 3-1 UTPB.
ASU chip away at the lead in the third, fourth and fifth innings with runs. Smith providing another double that scored
Kacie Easley in the third and
Ambra Hill would tie the game on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning.
Easley would provide the Rambelles with a brief 4-3 lead with her third home run of the season in the fifth.
Serna would settle down and strike out four and a third inning before being lifted for
Mary Kate McKay . Serna gave up a two walks to start the inning before the first batter to see McKay would tie the game on a RBI single to make it 4-4.
McKay would be credited with the loss and moved to 5-4 on the season.
The Rambelles return to the diamond on Friday in Lawton, Olka., to face Cameron to open Lone Star Conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
