SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team will start its defense of the Lone Star Conference Championship on Friday at 1 p.m. against Cameron in Lawton, Okla.
The Rambelles open up Lone Star Conference play with a 14-6 record after splitting with UT-Permian Basin on Tuesday. ASU is hitting .322 as a team this season and have a 3.55 earned-run average on the season.
The season has started with a 5-1 record on the road from with the only road loss being to a 5-4 game to UTPB. A quick start for the Rambelles has been beneficial as ASU is 8-1 when scoring first and 7-1 when scoring in the first inning.
Lauren Smith is the team's leading hitter with a .441 average. Smith also has 24 RBI's and 10 doubles on the season.
The senior has produced with a .481 average with runners in scoring position. She also advances runners 64.3-percent of the time.
Kacie Easley moved closer to setting a new career home run record. The two home runs she hit against UTPB are her third and fourth of the season and give her 34 for her career. Macy Baker currently holds the home run record with 39.
Lanie Robinson has been all over the field this season. She started the season at third base and recently has moved to shortstop. The freshman picked up her first career start on the mound pitching four innings in a win over UTPB. Robinson is 1-0 on the season with a 3.00 ERA in three appearances.
Sandra Serna has been the team's ace as of late. She has an 8-2 overall record and has struck out 49 batters. Serna is tied for third in the LSC with 49 strikeouts.
Cameron is 4-10 on the season and is 1-3 at home. The last time Cameron defeated ASU was on Feb. 10 in a 5-3 game. Spencer Ferrell is the team's leading hitter with a .540 average. She has recorded 27 hits but only five RBI's on the season.
The Rambelles have an all-time record of 167-56 in Lone Star Conference games.
ASU will play a double header on Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with game three on Saturday at 12 p.m.
