SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The Angelo State softball team took two games in an evening doubleheader 6-2 and 5-1 from Abilene Christian on Tuesday at the ASU Softball Complex.

The Rambelles (28-14, 13-7 LSC) used two big home runs by Lauren Smith in game one and two big hits from Darian Dunn in game two to beat the Wildcats (24-22, 8-12). ASU received stellar pitching performances from both Mary Kate McKay and Sandra Serna.

In game one, ACU took a quick 1-0 in the first when leadoff hitter Keanan Winkfield would score on an error. Smith responded for the Rambelles with a solo shot. It is her second home run of the season and would tie the game after one inning.

Ambra Hill would get hit by a pitch and use her speed to get to third base. Smith would give ASU the lead with a RBI single that scored Hill for a 2-1 lead.

Morgan Spearman scored after leading off the fourth inning with a walk.

Smith came up in the sixth inning and sent another solo shot to left field for her second home run of the day. Rachel Moore and Spearman would score to extend the lead to 6-1.

ACU would try to rally in the seventh and would score one run until McKay ended the game with a grounder.

McKay would get her ninth win of the season scattering seven hits and two runs while striking out three.

Game two started out the same way as game one with ACU getting an early 1-0 lead after a Taylor Fitzgerald home run in the second inning.

ACU would not see the scoreboard again as Serna limited the Wildcats to three hits the rest of the way while striking out four for her 18th victory of the season.

ASU would tie the game in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly from Dunn would score Spearman.

The sixth inning would provide runs for the Rambelles again in game two. Dunn would provide the big hit again as she would score Amanda Wilhelm for the 2-1 lead. Dunn finished the game going 2-for-2 with two RBI's.

Maddy McGarity followed it up with a single to score Lanie Robinson.

Kacie Ealsey would hit a two-RBI double that scored McGarity and Hill to give ASU the 5-1 final score.

ASU will host Tarleton State In a three-game series this Friday and Saturday. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The six Rambelle seniors will be honored prior the first pitch on Saturday.
