Rambelles Defeat Tarleton State 9-1 in Five Innings

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The Angelo State softball team defeated Tarleton State 9-1 in five innings as Mary Kate McKay would limit the TexAnns to three hits on the night.

The Rambelles (29-14, 14-7 Lone Star Conference) won their third-straight game by pounding out 10 hits and scoring nine runs. ASU has outscored opponents 20-4 in its last three games. 

McKay took care of the rest, pitching five innings of three hit ball and only allowing one run. She struck out five in her 10th win of the season.Tarleton State (23-19, 10-11 LSC) would get two hits in the first but wouldn't get another until the fifth inning. 

It took ASU a second-time through the lineup to figure out Tarleton State starter Brenna Hennan. In the third inning, Ambra Hill started it off with a walk and would steal to move to second base. Kacie Easley, after flying out in the first, singled to score Hill.

With Easley on second , Lauren Smith would come to the plate. The senior hit her third home run in as many games to extend the lead to 3-0 after three innings. It is her fourth home run of the season and Smith finished the game 2-of-3 with two RBI's.

The offense continued rolling in the fourth inning as Carly Peters provided the power. The junior took a pitch to the opposite field for her fourth home run of the season to make it 5-0. Maddy McGarity and Hill would score on a double by Rachel Moore down the right field line.

Spearman would give ASU an 8-0 lead after four innings with a double off the top of the fence in center field that scored Moore.

The TexAnns would score their only run of the game in the top of the fifth as Melody Mayse would double to plate Eryn Frietas.

Lanie Robinson led the bottom of the fifth inning with a double to right center. Robinsin went 2-of-3 on the day. Brittney Davis would end the game in the fifth with a double that would score pinch runner Amanda Weaver to make the final score 9-1.

The Rambelles will close out its final home series with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The six seniors will be recognized prior to first pitch.
