Rambelles Take Series from Tarleton State; Easley Breaks HR Record

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The Angelo State softball team split today's doubleheader with Tarleton State taking game one 11-9 before dropping the finale 7-5. Kacie Easley broke the ASU career home run record with the 40th of her career in game one.

The Rambelles (30-15, 15-8 Lone Star Conference) won a slug fest with Tarleton State (23-21, 11-12 LSC) in game won 11-9 while both teams combined for 22 hits. Lauren Smith and Easley would both hit home runs in the victory.

Easley would break a tie for the career home run record with Macy Baker in the bottom of the sixth inning. The senior took the first pitch she saw to right center to push the ASU lead to 11-8. It is her 8th of the season.

The first two innings saw 11 runs between the two teams. The TexAnns would score six in the first two innings off ASU starter Sandra Serna. However, the Rambelles would score six of their own. Smith and Rachel Moore both hit doubles and both would score with Moore driving in Smith. Lanie Robinson was credited with an RBI single to score Moore.

The second inning saw the first three batters score for ASU. Brittney Davis (single), Ambra Hill (single) and Kacie Easley (walk) all scored in the inning to make it 6-5 Tarleton State.

Serna would hold TSU scoreless in the third while ASU took a 7-6 lead, its first of the game, with Smith's fourth home run of the week.

The TexAnns would tack on one run in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings but ASU would answer. The Rambelles scored a run in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by Robinson and a run in the sixth with Easley's record setting home run.  

Mary Kate McKay would come in relief for Serna and pitch three innings for the save. Serna earned her 19th victory of the season going four innings.

Game two started off well for the Rambelles by scoring three runs in the first two innings. Smith continued her hot streak by singling up the middle and later scoring on an error by the right fielder. Robinson would drive home Spearman with a RBI single.  Robinson finished the day with four total RBI's.

Serna would get the start for game two and started off strong only allowing one hit through five innings of play.

The TexAnns turned things around in the sixth. Tarleton State would score six runs on seven hits and one error to take a 6-3 advantage.

The Belles would respond with two in the sixth as Darian Dunn and Davis would both score on an error by the center fielder to bring the score to 6-5.

Tarelton State would push its lead to 7-5 with a solo shot in the seventh by Bailee Mauldin.

Serna was credited with the loss in five innings of work. She allowed five runs (four earned) on only five hits.

The Rambelles will return to action on Tuesday on the road against Abilene Christian with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
