No. 23 ASU Splits Doubleheader with Incarnate Word

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The No. 23 Angelo State softball team took the first game 4-3 of a doubleheader with Incarnate Word before dropping the second 3-0 at the ASU Softball Complex on Saturday evening.

The Rambelles (25-11, 10-4) continued its trend of dramatic endings in game one against the Cardinals (24-15, 7-7). The two teams were tied at three after seven innings.

Sandra Serna would pitch all nine innings for ASU and have runners in scoring position in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning but was able to work out of the jams to give the Rambelles a chance in the bottom of the ninth.

The ninth inning started with Darian Dunn would fly out to third to bring up McGarity. The freshman singled and was sacrificed over by Ambra Hill. After a walk by Spearman, McGarity would move to third on a wild pitch. Brianna Sanchez, UIW's starting pitcher, lost control of another pitch and McGarity would score the winning run.

ASU scored in the first on a Kacie Easley single that plated Morgan Spearman and in the third inning with the same two doing the damage. Spearman reached on a double and Easley drove her home with a double of her own.

The Rambelles would take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI single by Maddy McGarity. Incarnate Word tied it up in the sixth with a solo shot off of Serna

Game two the Rambelles offense would struggle at the plate. ASU would only muster three hits the entire game and strike out four times.

The Cardinals would score in the second, third and sixth innings to take a 3-0 advantage. The Rambelles had the bases loaded in the sixth inning but couldn't score.

Whitney Waldrip was credit with the victory for UIW. Mary Kate McKay took the loss for the Rambelles giving up three earned runs on nine hits but she did strike out six.

Angelo State and Incarnate Word will conclude their series tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the ASU Softball Complex.
