GRANBURY – Angelo State sophomore Ashley Bartholomew cut 15 strokes off her first round score to help lead a final round surge on Tuesday by the Angelo State golf team which finished third at Tarleton State's Doc Housewright Invitational being played at the par-72 Harbor Lakes Golf Course.

Bartholomew carded a career-low round with a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday, while fellow sophomore Abby Bobo shot a 75-77 –  152 and finished in a tie for third which is her best finish of the season and career. ASU's third place finish is its top showing of the season and comes in its final regular-season tournament before next week's Lone Star Conference Championships.

“I putted better today but had a really rough back nine after going 1-under on the front,” Bobo said. “Overall it was a pretty good tournament. I'm really proud of how well the team came back and played today and I think this will really help our confidence going into the conference tournament next week.”

The Rambelles came into the final round in fifth place, but were able to leap over Texas A&M-Commerce and Incarnate Word after finishing with a team total of 624 at the 36-hole tournament.

“We played very well today in windy conditions,” ASU coach Kathleen Price said. “I am so very proud of the performance and know that this momentum will carry us forward into the conference tournament.”

Courtney Rutledge finished the tournament in 12th after shooting 79-77 – 156, while senior Maury McCormick carded a 81-78 – 159 for her second straight top-20 finish. Krista Czarnecki was 29th with rounds of 84-80 to complete the tournament with a 164. Rutledge and Bobo have now finished in the top-20 in six of nine tournaments this season.

Bartholomew, a Mansfield native who shot an 88 on Monday, finished the tournament in 24th for her top finish of the season.

“My putting was much better and I was hitting my irons the best I have in a while,” Bartholomew said. “I'm extremely excited for conference and looking forward to our team building on our scores today and performing even better.”

Tarleton State won the team competition with a 307-301 – 608, while St. Edward's finished second with a 312-302 – 614. TexAnn Jessica Pickwick shot a 73-73 – 146 to win the individual title with St. Edward's Wallis Spears shooting 73-75 – 148 for second. Tarleton's Isabell Jimenez-Perea matched Bobo's 152 to tie for third.

Angelo State now shifts its attention to the Lone Star Conference Championships which will be played next Monday and Tuesday at The Golf Club at Champions Circle in Fort Worth. The Rambelles will play its practice round for the conference tournament on Sunday with its annual awards banquet to follow.
