Season Stats
SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 3 seed Angelo State women's softball team will face the No. 6 seed Incarnate Word in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
The Rambelles enter the tournament with a 34-15 record on the season and 19-8 in the Lone Star Conference. ASU will hit the road, a place the team has flourished. The team has a combined 21-5 (15-4 away, 6-1 neutral) record away from the ASU Softball Complex.
ASU is hitting .312 for the season with 79 doubles and 46 home runs. The team has drawn 147 walks and has stolen 89 bases. The .918 stolen base percentage (89-97) is the highest in program history.
Morgan Spearman, first team all-conference member, is the team's leader in batting average (.387), hits (58), home runs (9) and runs (41). She was named to the LSC Gold Glove team and has not made an error all season. The junior ended the regular season with four home runs in three games.
Lauren Smith, a second team all-conference, has been on a tear of late. For the season Smith is hitting .373 with a team leading 14 doubles. In the last two weeks of the season she has hit .457 with six home runs. The senior is currently on an 11-game hitting streak and has reached safely in 13 consecutive games.
Spearman and
Ambra Hill have been the top two base stealers for the Rambelles. Hill, a freshman, is a perfect 19 for 19 on the base path while Spearman is 18-22. Smith also has double-digit steal going 14 for 14.
The pitching duo of
Sandra Serna and
Mary Kate McKay has combined to go 33-14 on the season. Serna, the LSC Newcomer of the Year, has a 2.99 earned-run average and four shutouts on the season.
McKay has pitched well as of late. The junior is 4-0 with two save in her last seven appearances. She is holding teams to a 2.06 earned-run average in her last seven.
The Rambelles will be looking for redemption against Incarnate Word. Not only did the Cardinals take the series from ASU this year but won the 2012 Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship over ASU last season in Denton.
The Cardinals held ASU to a .154 batting average and the Rambelles were only able to score four runs. McKay and Serna held UIW to only seven runs in three games. Angelo State was able to win the first game 4-3 but was shutout in the doubleheader.
