Rambelles Defeat Texas A&M-International 14-13

The Angelo State softball team needed every run in the 14-13 win over Texas A&M-International on the final day of the ASU George McCorkle Classic on Monday.

The Rambelles (5-4) 14 runs is a season high along and the 11 hits ties the season high. The Dustdevils (5-5) scored 13 runs on 14 hits during the game.

ASU had a big fifth inning that was the difference in the game after TAMIU tied it in the top of the fifth inning. Carly Peters started the fifth off with a solo home run to right center to put ASU up 11-10. A walk by Tina Cisneros followed by Morgan Spearman's third hit of the game brought on a pitching change by TAMIU.

Micherie Koria, the first batter faced, was hit with the first pitch and Darian Dunn drew a walk to score Cisneros.  Megan Granado hit a single to right field that scored Morgan Spearman and Micherie Koria to give ASU a 14-10 lead in the fifth inning. Granado went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Dustdevils continued fighting scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh before Kenedy Urbany, who came in relief in the third inning, got Carrisa DeLeon to fly out to end the game with the tying run at third base. It is Urbany's third win of the season.

ASU jumped out to a 5-0 early lead in the bottom of the first inning. The first six batters reached base as Spearman and Koria both scored on an error by the shortstop. Urbany, who started the game at designated player, came up with two runners on and hit her first home run of her ASU career. Rachel Moore tacked on the fifth run of the inning on a single that scored Dunn.

The Dustdevils added a run in the second but ASU's bats continued. Spearman led off the second inning with a single. The senior finished the day going 3-for-3 with a walk, four runs scored and one RBI.

Dunn would score Spearman with an RBI single and Granado hit a double to center field to put the Rambelles up 8-1.

TAMIU responded in the third inning with the leadoff hitter getting on by error. It was one of five ASU errors on the day. Brittany Musset hit a home run to left field off starter Sandra Serna and the Dustdevils would add another run to make it 8-4. Serna would only pitch two and a third inning giving up three hits and four runs.

Two runs would come across in the bottom of the third inning. Carly Peters hit a single and score on a triple by Spearman. Koria hit a sacrifice fly to score Spearman and ASU led 10-4.

TAMUI would score three runs in both the fourth and fifth to tie the game at 10 before the Rambelles responded in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Rambelles will play in the West Texas A&M Classic with games starting on Friday in Canyon.
