CANYON – The No. 17 Angelo State softball team lost to Metro State 12-7 in its final game of the Woodward WT Invitational in Canyon.
The Rambelles (9-5), who had won its six previous games, recorded a season-high 15 hits in the game but left nine runners on base. Metro State (4-1) scored seven runs through the first three innings and finished with 14 hits on the day. The 12 runs allowed is the second-most runs given up this season by ASU.
The Roadrunners got out early in the bottom of the first inning hitting two home run and scoring three runs off starter
Sandra Serna.
ASU responded in the top of the second inning.
Tina Cisneros started the inning with a single and
Kenedy Urbany doubled to left center to put Cisneros at third. A walk by
Rachel Moore would load the bases for the Rambelles.
Carly Peters drew a walk to score Cisneros. After a fielder's choice,
Morgan Spearman cleared the bases with a double to put the Rambelles up 4-3.
A scoreless second inning by the Roadrunners and the Rambelles added another run in the top of the third.
Megan Granado led the inning off with a single and would score on a RBI single by Moore.
Metro State used another home run in the third to retake the lead. Serna gave up a single and two walks before Mary Towner hit a grand slam home run. The senior came back and got the next three outs but ASU was down 7-5.
ASU would be held scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning. Urbany came in to pitch in the fourth inning and after a scoreless fourth Metro State struck again with one run in the fifth inning.
Micherie Koria would score on a double by Dunn to cut Metro State's lead to 8-6 in the sixth but the Roadrunners extended their lead in the bottom half of the inning.
MSU scored four runs on five hits including a two-run home run to go up 12-5. The Roadrunners would tag Urbany with five runs, four earned, on nine hits in three innings.
Moore hit her second home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning to make the final score 12-7.
Serna moves to 4-3 with the loss after giving up seven runs on five hits in three innings pitched.
The Rambelles return to the diamond on Saturday at Mayer Field against UT-Permian Basin for a double header.
