SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team will host UT-Permian Basin this Saturday at Mayer Field for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
The Rambelles are coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Woodward WT Invitational and are now 9-5 on the season. ASU dropped out of the NFCA rankings this week after starting the season at No. 17. The team is 3-2 at Mayer Field after hosting the ASU George McCorkle Classic.
ASU is hitting .343 as a team with 126 hits. Of the 126 hits, 20 have been doubles, two have been triples and 16 are home runs. The Rambelles have stolen 30 bases this season and drawn 59 walks on the year.
Darian Dunn is coming off a very productive weekend. The sophomore was named LSC Hitter of the Week and the Louisville Slugger / NFCA National Hitter of the Week after hitting .588 at the Woodward WT Invitational. Dunn drove in 16 RBIs over give game and finished with a slugging at a 1.294 clip.
The Frisco native is third on the team with a .476 season average but it tops on the team in runs (18), home runs (6) and slugging (1.000). She also hit the third grand slam of her career against Colorado Mesa. She has 14 career home runs and 117 RBIs as a sophomore.
Two other Rambelles are the top two hitters in the Lone Star Conference in average.
Micherie Koria is leading the conference with a .500 batting average and 11 stolen bases. The junior has 17 hits, 16 runs, four double and seven RBIs through 14 games.
Morgan Spearman is second in the conference with a .488 average. The senior hit her first home run of the season, the 22
nd of her career, against Colorado State-Pueblo. She has 16 runs scored and is now one away from moving into third on the ASU career list. The Kennedale native leads the team with 21 hits and has stolen eight bases. She is also tied for second in the league with five doubles. Â
Rachel Moore is third on the team with a .375 average. The junior hit .583 with two home runs and six RBIs this past weekend. The Katy native has scored 10 runs and has 12 hits on the season.
Tina Cisneros had a strong weekend with her .375 average. The junior hit her first home run of the season. Six of her nine hits came in Canyon.
Kenedy Urbany continued to provide support not only in the circle but at the plate. The freshman hit .500 in Canyon with six hits and drove in four runs. She is second on the team with 13 RBIs and leads the team with four sacrifice flies. Â In the circle, Urbany went 2-0 and is now 5-1 on the season. The Helotes native has a 3.47 earned-run average with 24 strikeouts.
Sandra Serna had a strong weekend through the first two games she pitched. The Albuquerque native threw a three hit shutout against Colorado State-Pubelo and held Colorado Mesa to two hits through four innings. The senior is 4-3 on the season and leads the Rambelles with a 2.65 ERA.
Texas-Permian Basin and ASU have played each other 19 times since 2007. The Rambelles hold a 17-2 series advantage and have won the last two meetings. The Falcons this season are 3-10 and are hitting .262 as a team.
The Rambelles defeated UTPB 13-1 at the St. Mary's Invitational earlier this season. Urbany only allowed four hits in five innings of work. ASU had 11 hits with Spearman, Dunn and
Maddy McGarity  all going two-for-two on the day.
Jenifer Quam leads UTPB with a .419 average with five doubles and two triples. In the circle, Desiree Valero is 1-6 with a 3.59 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
