No. 25 Rambelles Start Conference Play with Doubleheader Split

The No. 25 Angelo State softball team rebounded with a 17-4 win in five innings in the second game of a doubleheader after Tarleton State took game one 7-6 in extra innings on Friday night in Stephenville.  

The Rambelles (13-7, 1-1 LSC) racked up 14 hits through five innings in game two after giving up 17 hits in game one to the Texanns (9-13, 1-1 LSC). ASU was able to score in every inning in game two.

Morgan Spearman started game two with a home run. It is the fourth home run of the season and the third-straight game the senior has hit a homer.

Tarleton State answered in the bottom of the first with two runs off starter Sandra Serna. The Rambelles stormed back in the second. Megan Granado scored Tina Cisneors and Kenedy Urbany after both reached on a walk.

Spearman kept the inning alive by bringing home Granado and Ambra Hill for a 5-2 lead in the second inning.

Two more runs would come across in the third and Tarleton State responded with two of its own to cut the lead to 7-4

The runs continued in the fourth. Darian Dunn hit a double to score Micherie Koria from third and Moore hit her fourth home run of the season to put ASU on top 10-4.

The biggest inning of the day came in the fifth inning with seven runs on five hits. Kelly Johnson, Carly Peters, Luz'Ce Baca, Spearman and Moore all got hits in the fifth inning to make it 17-4.

Moore went 3-for-4 in game two with three runs scores and four RBIs.

Serna got the final three outs for her fifth win of the season. The senior gave up four runs but only allowed six hits in five innings of work.  

The first game saw the Rambelles come back from a 6-3 deficit to tie the game at six in the top of the 7th inning before falling in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Down 6-4 in the top of the 7th, Koria earned a walk with one out and would score on a Moore double to make it 6-5. Cisneros tied the game after a double to left field.

The game would continue until the bottom of the 10th inning when the international tiebreaker rule was used. Tarleton State would score the runner from second base to win the game 7-6.

The Rambelles trailed the entire game down 5-2 after just two innings. ASU would chip away with a home run by Spearman in the third and a RBI double by Granado plating Cisneros to make it 6-4.

Mary Kate McKay pitched 5.1 innings giving up only six hits and one run. The senior stuck out two and is now 1-2 on the season. Urbany started the game and gave up six runs on 11 hits in four innings of work.

Spearman went 3-for-4 with a home run in game one. Five different Rambelles recorded an RBI.

The Rambelles will conclude the series tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
